Coverage Area

Unlike DSL and other broadband technologies that are limited to only densely populated areas, T1 service is available just about anywhere with a phone line. T1, also known as DS1, uses repeaters to boost up the signal strength of the transmission - allowing it to travel up to 50 miles away from the nearest Central Office location.

T3 cost is determined by market conditions, cost of facilities, and most important, distance from the point of presence (PoP) of the quoting provider. The further a business is from the PoP, the more it costs to extend a T3 circuit to this business. Another aspect relevant to T3 cost is the “build-out” of proper wiring to and at the served premise. T3 requires special wiring. Most businesses are not properly wired, or “lit” for T3. In these cases, installation of appropriate wiring can cost thousands of dollars. If the end user needs less than 12 mbps, bonded T1 (bonded DS1) can be a much less expensive alternative. Since a bonded T1 circuit only requires two pairs of phone lines, it can be installed free of charge to virtually any business location in the US. If your business premise is wired for T3 (lit), then full T3 can provide substantial savings for bandwidths over 12 mbps. If more than 12 mbps is needed but a full T3 is not, fractional or burstable T3 are often more cost effective options. However, with any form of T3, the cost of build-out will be a reality if the building which will be served is not lit. Because the cost of build-out cannot be determined without a great deal of assessment by trained technicians, build-out charges are very seldom included with T3 quotes. Most major providers will not endure the expense of build-out assessment until after the customer commits to a signed application. Commonly, if build-out proves to be too expensive, then the application is terminated without cost to the customer. Regardless of cost of build-out, because price per mbps for full T3 is commonly less than half the price per mbps of T1, the resulting monthly savings compensates for T3 build-out costs within a few months.  Modern VPNs

Written by: Dennis Green - Jan 9, 2009

Virtual private networks (VPNs) utilize major advancements in technology to establish secure private communication channels, for the transfer of data, over shared networks such as private intranets or the internet. Currently, the most popular and state-of–the-art virtual private networks are based on MPLS (multiprotocol label switching). MPLS provides any-to-any connectivity over T1 or higher bandwidth. The best MPLS networks are facilitated within the closed systems of specific tier 1 providers. With this scenario, MPLS networks are as secure as point-to-point circuits. With quality of service (QoS), MPLS networks are extremely well suited for transmitting voice, priority files, multiple location audio or videoconferencing, or high quality video transmission. For two location networks, a point-to-point private line continues to be a bit less expensive than a MPLS virtual private network. However, point-to-point lines are not normally managed by providers, so with point-to-point lines, obtaining customer premise equipment, and configuring and maintaining the equipment is the responsibility of the end user. For multiple location networks, or two location networks which you know will increase in number of locations, MPLS can be far more functional, and far less expensive than a network comprised of point-to-point lines. In most cases, full T1 or DS3 MPLS VPNs are provided with all needed hardware, installation, configuration and management of the network by the provider for about the same cost, or just slightly more, per location, than managed internet service. Managed MPLS networks are pretty much turn key for the end user. There are also a variety of options for networking DSL or Cable service as well. As the authorized sales agents for the top 20 telecom providers in the country, we can provide free comparative quotes for completely managed virtual private networks for any locations in the US, regardless of the bandwidth needed at each location. We can also provide quotes for international VPNs (including MPLS options as well).
